At the Selfridges Shoe Gallery yesterday, I overheard 3 women chatting at Chanel while I was paying for my biker boots. The three of them are evidently wealthy (aka ladies who lunch) and are meeting for the very first time while trying on shoes. 

This Romanian-born woman, Evelyn (see I even caught her name) started bragging about her smart daughters (of which one got accepted into Cambridge before she was 18). The other woman, Natalie, was there with her mother probably couldn’t resist and started the same as well. They were obviously comparing whose kids were more intelligent and successful but at the end of the conversation, all three women exchanged “It’s been really nice talking to you”s.

I don’t think people get more fake than this.

Let’s hope not all Chanel customers of that age are like that…
